Congratulations to Tenisha Neil-Robinson who on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, successfully defended her dissertation proposal. The title of Tenisha’s dissertation is A QUALITATIVE STUDY OF BURNOUT EXPERIENCES AMONG SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERS.

School social workers play an essential role in public schools, collaborating with guidance counselors and psychologists to create safe school environments and provide counseling, crisis intervention, and positive mental health education. Yet, increased demands on school social workers, particularly post-COVID, has revealed growing burnout contributing to attrition in the profession. The purpose of this qualitative study is to describe how school social workers experience burnout. Drawing on Maslach’s theory of burnout (Maslach & Jackson, 1981), this study will describe the stressors that contribute to school social workers’ feelings of burnout and their perspectives on effective strategies for the reduction of those stressors
