Congratulations to Sheldon Sucre who on Monday, December 2, 2024, successfully defended his dissertation. The title of Sheldon’s dissertation is: EXPLORING THE MULTIFACETED EXPERIENCES OF BLACK FULL-TIME FACULTY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER EDUCATION.

This study explored multifaceted racial lived experiences of Black full-time PETE faculty and centering of White culture, norms, and perspectives in PETE. Participants' narratives shed light on "White space," racial microaggressions, and racial/gender biases in PETE. The use of cohort directed instruction and activities does enhance learning objectives and topic conceptualization. The findings of this study revealed themes of isolation, exclusion, racial microaggressions, barriers to advancement, and centering of "Whiteness." This study will have significant implications for Black PETE faculty, PETE field, and higher ed by uncentering "Whiteness" and centering marginalized voices.
