Congratulations to Mary Kubat who on Thursday, July 11, 2024, successfully defended her dissertation proposal. The title of Mary’s dissertation is THE PERCEIVED STEM SELF-EFFICACY OF ELEMENTARY PRINCIPALS AND ITS EFFECTS ON STEM IMPLEMENTATION.
STEM activities allow for learning across the curriculum as they combine practical and experimental approaches to understanding the world and solving problems (Affouneh et al., 2020).
The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore the STEM leadership behaviors of elementary public-school principals. It will examine the decisions elementary administrators make about STEM curricula in their schools based on their beliefs, understandings and experiences with these disciplines. The study will investigate the role of 21st century school leaders and is informed by the theoretical lenses of Bandura’s (1977) self-efficacy theory and Lent, Brown and Hackett’s (1994) social cognitive career theory. The study will collect data through semi-structured interviews with elementary school principals who have received tenure and through an analysis of artifacts.
