Congratulations to Claire Comerford who on Thursday, July 11, 2024, successfully defended her dissertation proposal. The title of Claire’s dissertation is UNDERSTANDING SECONDARY CONTENT AREA TEACHERS’ USES AND VIEWS OF GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION: A GROUNDED THEORY STUDY.

Generative Artificial Intelligence is AI that can create new content (such as images, text, audio, video, etc.) in response to a submitted prompt from its large database of learned material (McKinsey, 2024). Since 2023, the advent of new and widely accessible GAI applications is changing the way educators teach and how students learn.

Claire’s qualitative study will illuminate how secondary teachers in New York State are utilizing (GAI) in their classrooms and how they view the future of GAI in education. Given the limited research and novelty of this topic, Claire will employ a constructivist grounded theoretical approach that will allow for the emergence of conceptual and theoretical insights from her data. on the role of GAI in education. Her findings are sure to contribute to the important and rapidly evolving discourse
