Congratulations to Juliesa McFarlane who on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, successfully defended her dissertation proposal. The title of Juliesa’s dissertation is: BLACK SINGLE HEADS OF HOUSEHOLDS LEVELS OF EDUCATION AND ITS EFFECT ON THEIR CHILDREN’S PURSUIT OF HIGHER LEARNING.
The purpose of this phenomenological study aims to understand the essence of black single-parent-led households and their relationship to education. A parent’s attitude toward academic achievement directly relates to their child’s educational outcomes. Children of single parents that have not attended a higher education institution have different experiences preparing to attend college than their counterparts. This study will examine the structures in place to support this population of students and their families.
