Congratulations to Kelly Rudyk who on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, successfully defended her dissertation research proposal. The title of Kelly’s dissertation is: SPECIAL EDUCATION LEADERSHIP CAPACITY AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: A QUALITATIVE STUDY OF SPECIAL EDUCATION LEADERS AND THEIR ROLE IN THE SELECTION, DEVELOPMENT, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS.
To best support students with disabilities and meet their diverse educational needs, special education leaders need the capacity, experience, and expertise to select, develop, and implement professional development opportunities designed to support special education teachers and ultimately their students. There is a gap in the research when it comes to the role of special education leaders in professional development opportunities. Kelly Rudyk's study will identify and aim to understand special education leaders’ role in the selection, development, and implementation of professional development, drawing upon path-goal leadership theory. The methodological design will be a qualitative inquiry comprised of semi-structured interviews with current special education leaders. The conceptual framework is centered around path-goal leadership theory.
