Congratulations to Yvon Jules who on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, successfully defended his dissertation proposal. The title of Yvon’s dissertation is: THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS USING EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES TO CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAPS OF STUDENTS WITH EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL DISABILITIES. This exploratory, quantitative, survey study seeks to understand if and how Special Education teachers employ Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) to support students with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities. Prior research has shown EBPs can serve as important interventions and tools to close gaps in learning and achievement among some of our most vulnerable students. Using Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory of learning, Yvon hopes to gain a better understanding of how these tools, which include Peer Tutoring and Integration of Technology, can serve as sources of support, help teachers manage complex classrooms, and meet the needs of their students.
