Congratulations to Yvette E. Rivera who on Friday, August 22, 2025, successfully defended her dissertation. The title of Yvette’s dissertation is "LAS VOCES QUE GUÍAN: A NARRATIVE INQUIRY INTO LATINX SCHOOL LEADERS’ CULTURAL HERITAGE, RESILIENCE, AND SCHOOL LEADERSHIP IN A TIME OF CULTURAL CONTESTATION."

The purpose of this study is to understand how Latinx school leaders in urban settings perceive and utilize their cultural racial and heritage as a resource and/or barrier in their leadership work. This includes exploring personal, cultural, and professional narratives that showcase the multifaceted influences of heritage on school leadership.

Narrative inquiry will be used to center participants’ lived experiences and how their cultural heritage shapes and informs their leadership work. This method is rooted in the work of Clandinin & Connelly (2004) and allows for the exploration of how personal and institutional timelines intersect with identity, learning, and change.
