Congratulations to Tiffany K. Crockett who on Thursday, August 21, 2025, successfully defended her dissertation proposal. The title of Tiffany’s dissertation is, "PERCEPTIONS OF NOVICE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS’ PREPARATION TO TEACH STUDENTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER."
This interpretive qualitative study will explore the experiences of novice special education teachers as they transition into the teaching profession and confront the challenges of educating students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Given the increasing prevalence of ASD and the return of students to in-district public school settings, understanding teacher preparedness is both timely and essential. The study will investigate how novice teachers perceive their pre-service preparation and early professional development, with a focus on teacher confidence, competence, and ability to meet the diverse needs of students with ASD.
