Located in a tennis-rich community, the PTM Certificate program prepares students for the tennis management field or teaching and coaching roles while providing ample opportunities to make valuable industry contacts right at Manhattanville’s doorstep.

The Professional Tennis Management Certificate program works directly with the USTA, America’s national governing tennis body, and the organizer/sponsor of the US Open Tennis Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in nearby Flushing Meadows, Queens.

 

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) accredits institutions like Manhattanville, validating our commitment to growing the game and the tennis industry, as well as preparing students for careers within tennis.

The tennis management program is highly flexible, allowing anyone in the profession to earn valuable credentials and enabling undergraduates of any Manhattanville major to gain specialized skills in the field. Upon completing this certificate, students will be fully prepared to pursue Level 1 and Level 2 tennis management certifications and embark upon or develop tennis management careers. We may help with exam scheduling where applicable and able.

The certificate-only pathway can be pursued by working tennis professionals or interested parties, while the certificate can also be added to any in-progress undergraduate program.

Our comprehensive curriculum takes a multi-faceted approach to professional tennis management. Students are introduced to teaching techniques, tournament organization, club and facility management principles, marketing strategies, and more.

Classes are run by tennis industry experts who provide practical, real-world experience. The PTM student will have the opportunity to explore not only tennis teaching qualifications, but also certifications for officiating and stringing.

Course requirements for the PTM Certificate include:

  • Orientation to Professional Tennis Management, 3 Credits (suggested timeline first/sophomore year)
  • Beginning Teaching Techniques, 3 Credits (suggested timeline, first/sophomore year)
  • Marketing and Administration for Professional Tennis Managers, 3 Credits (suggested timeline, junior year)
  • Advanced Teaching Techniques, 3 Credits (suggested timeline, Junior year)
  • Senior Evaluation, 3 credits

Through completing internships at one of the many tennis clubs or facilities local to Manhattanville or throughout the country, students will gain invaluable insight to many different aspects of working within the world of tennis. From teaching at these clubs, to observing the day to day management operations, there will be excellent opportunities for students to experience many different aspects of these businesses.

In these settings, students prepare for the various qualifications offered through the PTM program and to have the exposure to the array of different career possibilities within the tennis industry.
