Dr. Krista Quinn received her doctorate in higher education from Manhattanville University and News12 was there to capture the moment!

Dr. Krista Quinn, the Coordinator of the English, Speech and ESL departments and an instructor of English at Rockland Community College, has had quite a journey to reach this moment. She started her doctoral pursuit at one institution; however, when that doctoral program was discontinued, she was left in a lurch.  She, and more than a dozen of her peers, were supported by faculty and staff at Manhattanville University where they transferred to finish what they started!

Krista, who cares deeply about her work with students, researched how community college faculty cultivate environments conducive to students feeling valued. Her dissertation, titled “You Matter,” revealed the importance of inclusive and supportive pedagogical practices, affirming students’ abilities, and intentionally making space for students in the classroom.

While Krista hit bumps in the road, this mother of 2 modeled for her children that it’s never too late to follow your dreams!
