Congratulations to Rudy Arietta who on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, successfully defended his dissertation proposal. The title of Rudy’s dissertation is: LEADING CHANGE: SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPPORT OF HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS’ LEARNING NEEDS.
Meaningful school-level change is aligned with a principal’s ability to lead their schools through complex adaptive challenges. As the principal’s role becomes increasingly complicated, the need for on-the-job professional development has become more pressing.
As a well-experienced high school principal and now district level administrator, Rudy has proposed a qualitative study through which he will explore the interplay between high school principals’ identified professional learning needs and the supports actually offered to them by their districts. Using Drago-Severson and Blum-DeStefano’s (2018) research on pillar practices for capacity building as a framework for his analysis, Rudy’s study will identify means by which districts can best support principals; it also will illuminate means by which such supports can be strengthened. The outcomes of Rudy’s study will be especially relevant to efforts to stem the tide of increases in principals’ job dissatisfaction and attrition.
