Congratulations to Rose Pascal who on Friday, April 18, 2025, successfully defended her dissertation proposal. The title of Rose’s dissertation is: "JOB BURNOUT: A QUALITATIVE STUDY OF THE EXPERIENCES OF SCHOOL BASED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS USING THE JOB DEMANDS RESOURCES MODEL."
Her qualitative study seeks to understand the experiences of school based occupational therapy practitioners working in K-12 educational settings who have experienced job burnout. Drawing upon the Job Demands-Resources Model (JD-R) (Demerouti al, 2006) as the theoretical lens, this study aims to uncover how occupational therapy practitioners navigate the demands that contribute to their burnout and what resources are available to mitigate the stress. School based occupational therapists working in school settings will be recruited from across the U.S. and will participate in semi-structed interviews to gather detailed understanding of participants' perspectives of job burnout and how Job Demands-Resources model of burnout influences their experience of burnout. This study should offer an additional perspective on job burnout by exploring an under-researched population, namely occupational therapy practitioners working in K-12 settings. The study's interpretive nature will provide insight into how occupational therapy practitioners make sense of job burnout within K-12 educational settings.
