Dr. Samantha Ross, a renowned consultant in Gender-Based Violence, paid a courtesy call on Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King, at Defence Headquarters on John K. Kennedy Drive on June 24, 2024.

Dr. Ross, who serves as a consultant to United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), brings with her 24 years of experience in the US Army, primarily as an army engineer, before transitioning to focus on gender-based violence prevention programs.

Her journey in advocacy and program direction has been marked by her commitment to developing comprehensive solutions to this critical issue. During her visit, Dr. Ross delivered a presentation to Commodore King and the Executive Leadership Team, focusing on constructing a survey designed to collect essential data to address gender-based violence within the Defence Force.

This climate survey is aimed at informing leaders about behaviors within the organization that may constitute gender-based violence, how are the matters commonly treated, and developing programs and systems targeted to address these issues. These initiatives may include training programs and improved avenues of recourse for affected personnel, to foster resilience and trust in the system to handle such matters seriously and effectively.

The survey's results are intended to provide preventative solutions by addressing the environment in which gender-based violence occurs, rather than merely reacting to individual cases. This project, ongoing since January, exemplifies the mutually beneficial relationship between NORTHCOM and the RBDF.

Commodore Raymond King has taken a proactive approach to strengthening the Defence Force's capabilities in addressing evolving challenges. His leadership aims to create a professional and collaborative environment that harnesses the full potential of dedicated personnel. This commitment to excellence in leadership is demonstrated through the cultivation of a high-performance workforce focused on performance excellence and the fostering of an inclusive working environment that empowers all personnel.

The RBDF is cognizant of the benefits of gender equality and equity; women, peace and security; and organizational diversity in addition to the implications involved with gender-based violence and forms of sexual harassment in the workplace.
