The MAT in Health Education degree is designed to prepare master's level candidates for a career as a K-12 health educator. The degree’s comprehensive design offers candidates content about individual, school, community and global health while emphasizing best teaching practices in a K-12 classroom. In addition, special focus is placed on innovative curriculum development, maximizing student engagement and meeting the learning needs of each student. During the course of the degree, candidates will participate in numerous learning activities, including: experiential learning, observation hours, interviews, field assignments, presentations, tests, article reviews, lectures, group discussions, and the use of technology in health. All learning activities are aligned with both new York State Health Learning Standards and National Health Standards to help foster thoughtful, well-developed, reflective and insightful health teachers.
Upon completion of this degree, candidates are recommended for New York State K-12 Health teaching certification.
