The Department of Visual Arts at Manhattanville College seeks to prepare students to work as socially and ethically responsible, caring and reflective teachers. This program requires students to have a well-rounded background in Art including painting, drawing, sculpture, and art history. The art facilities include studios for painting, design, sculpture, print-making, ceramics, photography, and digital media/graphic design. Coursework focuses on the major methods of teaching Visual Art as well as their connections to other interdisciplinary subjects, particularly in the areas of Art History, Aesthetic Literacy, Literacy, and Social Studies.
