Dr. Peter F. Troiano, Associate Professor of Higher Education Leadership, Coordinates
the Dissertation Completion and Higher Education Pathways for the Doctoral Program
in Educational Leadership. Prior to joining the faculty at Manhattanville College,
Dr. Troiano served as Assistant Professor of Counselor Education and Family Therapy
at Central Connecticut State University and Coordinator of the Student Development
in Higher Education master's program and the Educational Leadership (Higher Education
strand) doctoral program.
Dr. Troiano held several senior leadership positions in both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs before become a full-time faculty member six years ago. During his thirty year career in higher education administration, Dr. Troiano served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Curry College, Mitchell College, Southern Connecticut State University, an Central Connecticut State University. He also served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the Learning Resource Center at Mitchell College.
Dr. Troiano's primary area of research interest is college students and disability. He has conducted several research studies on disability and identity among college students and has developed a model for working with college-age populations with learning disability known as The Self-Styled Learning Disability. Dr. Troiano is deeply committed to empowering students to understand and embrace their disability as a critical element of their identity and to helping students develop the self advocacy and self determination skills necessary for them to achieve their life goals. He is also an advocate for disability concerns, fostering awareness and acceptance among faculty and staff on campuses across the country while educating them on the principles of universal design.
Dr. Troiano is also the co-author of a book titled, "Of Education, Fish Bowls, and Rabbit Holes: Rethinking Teaching and Liberal Education or an Interconnected World" a collaboration with his colleague and friend, Dr. Jane Fried.
Dr. Troiano earned his Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park, and his M.A. in College Student Personnel Administration from Bowling Green State University. He completed his undergraduate degree at Providence College, with a B.S. in Finance.
