Peter Shaker

Peter Shaker instructs academic writing at Manhattanville University. As a Learning Specialist for the Writing Center, Professor Shaker focuses on working with multilingual and international students. In addition, he assists students in the School of Education. Professor Shaker is a State of Connecticut certified educator in various subject areas, including Language Arts, English as a second language, and Social Studies. He holds a BA degree in communication, supplemented by minors in political science and journalism, and he earned a Master's degree in education. During his two-year service in the Peace Corps, Professor Shaker played a key role in Thailand by teaching English and providing essential training to Thai teachers of English. In addition to exploring Thailand, his adventures have led him to diverse destinations, including Malaysia, Japan, Egypt, Canada, Hawaii, and throughout the continental U.S. In Connecticut, Professor Shaker is the executive director and founder of English Learner Support Services, a nonprofit organization based in Fairfield County that serves immigrant youth attending public schools.
