Application Process For Direct Exchange & Cooperative Programs
The application is a competitive three-step process.
DISCLOSURE
All candidates applying for Cooperative Program overseas study must be in good standing and not in violation of the College Code of Conduct. It is the requirement of the candidate to disclose a statement explaining any past or current violations of the College Code. Failure of any candidate to provide full disclosure of a violation of the College Code of Conduct will result in forfeiture of any favorable decision rendered by the Study Abroad Committee.
YOU MUST DECLARE A MAJOR BEFORE YOU CAN APPLY
STEP ONE
Submit a complete application online to the Study Abroad Office. Following your submission, applications are reviewed by the Study Abroad Selection Committee.

- Review this form and prepare before cutting and pasting into the application
- The 700 word (maximum) ESSAY is part of the application
- Upload an UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT – found in WebAdvisor under course history, print/save as PDF
- Use STUDENT PLANNING to project your study abroad semester AND the remaining semesters leading to graduation. List the same projected courses on your Course Equivalency Form (for faculty approval). Print/Save the audit as a PDF and upload to the application.
Faculty Recommendation Form (2 needed) (< live link)
Please note that at least one recommendation should come from a member of your major department. Hopefully, you have asked your proposed reference in advance. It is never wise to ask and send the form in the same email, especially if you want a positive result. These references come directly to the Study Abroad Office and not back to the student.
Once you know your reference is on board:
- Create an email to your reference
- Subject Line: Recommendation for Study Abroad
- In the body of the email include: Your Name, Your Program Title and Country, and your college ID (this is needed for your reference to complete the form)
- Copy and paste the following link into the body of your email

- Last line – thank your reference

Deadlines
The next application deadline will be February 25, 2023 at midnight for the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters. The above forms must be completed online and printed out for signatures. Please scan and upload forms as required. No handwritten forms are accepted. Completed applications must be uploaded by the deadline date. No late applications!
STEP TWO
The faculty selection committee will determine the necessity and timing of interviews for applicants.
STEP THREE
Those who are approved by the Study Abroad Selection Committee must then submit a completed application to the host institution through the Study Abroad Office. Deadlines vary according to the program, so it is necessary that you obtain an application link from the Manhattanville Study Abroad Office immediately upon receiving approval.
For acceptance to the host institution abroad, applicants must:
- Complete the required application
- Apply for an official transcript from the Manhattanville Registrar
- Obtain the required letters of recommendation
- Submit the required medical forms (both the program's and Manhattanville's)
- Submit other documentation (photos, etc.) required by the program
Application Process for Independent Programs

Students research the program they are interested in, receive course approvals from faculty, and follow up on their own. The Study Abroad office is available for guidance and advice. All courses must be pre-approved!
