4+1 Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s degrees are a great way to save time and money and also enhance your career opportunities. Receive your Master’s degree in as little as one year. Eligible students take 12 graduate credits which is applied to both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Overview
Manhattanville’s School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) offer two tracks for full-time undergraduates who wish to combine an undergraduate Chemistry degree with a Biomedical Sciences degree at the graduate level.
The following 4+1 degree programs are available:
- BA Chemistry + MS Biomedical Sciences
- BS Chemistry + MS Biomedical Sciences
Manhattanville’s chemistry program, like all our majors, is built on a foundation of liberal arts. So while you’ll spend time in our state-of-the-art the laboratory, getting critical training for careers in academic and industrial research, you’ll also build skills in communications and critical thought that come from studying arts and the humanities as well – skills that you’ll need to succeed in any job that you pursue.
Requirements
Students must have at least 75 earned credits to be accepted into the program. Candidates need an overall GPA of at least 3.3, have taken coursework to provide a strong foundation of biological and chemical science knowledge, and have at least one recommendation from Manhattanville faculty attesting to the student’s preparedness for graduate level study.
All students in the dual degree program must complete BIO1001 and BIO1002 (Principles of Biology), along with CHM1001-1004 (Principles of Chemistry) as they are prerequisites for other biology courses. Students must earn a B or better in all biology and chemistry coursework to continue in the program and may take no more than one 5000 level biology course in the first two semesters of their participation in the program. Students may subsequently take up to two 5000 level biology courses per semester.
Courses which may count toward both degrees are any 5000 level Biology or Chemistry course are described in the college graduate catalog under M.S. Biomedical Sciences, and include courses such as (but not limited to):
Anatomy and Physiology I and II
Biochemistry I and II
Medicinal Chemistry
Molecular Biology Techniques
Principles of Genetics

Pre-Professional and Minor Programs
In addition to the Chemistry B.A. and B.S., Manhattanville offers the following bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the sciences:
- B.A./B.S. in Biology
- B.A./B.S. in Biochemistry
- B.S. in Environmental Science
- M.S. in Biomedical Science
Pre-Health Track
Biochemistry majors preparing for medical school, dental school, and other advanced health science professions can enroll in Manhattanville’s Pre-Health program. Through one-on-one advising, the Pre-Health pathway ensures you take essential courses and prepare for graduate school entrance exams, interviews, and the application process.
Review the Pre-Health program information.
Minors
Adding a minor to your Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree broadens your perspective and adds depth to your skillset. Science minors that could complement your biochemical education include:
- Minor in Physics
- Minor in Health Sciences
- Minor in Environmental Studies
- Minor in Nutrition
