that is a conversation for sports radio. This is about sports business and creating the next wave of
leaders for the sports business industry. The certificate covers pertinent areas of the sports managment,
and just as important, our professors and administrators have the network and contacts to make your
sports business career happen or grow.

MSBM 5001: Dynamics of Sports Business (3 cr.) Explores the modern sports era and establishes the foundation for the multi-billion dollar industry of today. Discusses some of the compelling socioeconomic, industrial, and technological movements that have contributed to the success of sports entertainment. Examines the factors that gave sport legitimacy and financial stability. Discusses the humble beginnings of professional, collegiate and Olympic sports cherished today. Examines the industry146s evolution through inventions and how these developments shaped the industry. Explores the mechanism of sponsorship and marketing through sport. Explores and analyzes the onset of free agency and the rise of the industry146s revenue generating sources. Discusses the management theories that apply to the industry and the current business and social issues it faces. Emphasizes the managerial and business skills required to operate successfully as a business leader in this [filed?].
MSBM 5003: Economic & Financial Aspects of Sport Management (3 cr.) Examines the economic and financial environment in which the sport industry operates, with emphasis on pricing, supply and demand factors, and taxes. Identifies key stakeholders and their various interests in the financial success of sport operations and organizations. Explores sources of funding and revenue production, including sponsorships, in the face of competition. Examines how to analyze, control and evaluate financial performance; apply sound financial management principles and practices; and prepare, analyze and use budgets and financial reports. Emphasizes the application of basic managerial decision-making to financial issues.
MSBM 5005: Legal and Ethical Considerations in Sports (3 cr.) Provides an understanding of the laws and legal concepts governing the sports industry, and how they apply to the sports managers role. Focuses on legal and ethical issues related to legislation, drug testing, employment law, negligence and liability, as well as intellectual and property rights. Addresses licenses and contracts related to players, teams, merchandising, services, sponsorships and facilities. Applies ethical theories to sports operations and decision-making, and uses case studies to reinforce the value of adhering to sound ethical principles in addressing business problems.
MSBM 5026: The Role of Agents in Sport (3 cr.) This course will introduce students to the role agents play in the life of professional athletes including contract negotiations, interaction with player unions, financial and tax professionals, media interaction, athlete marketing, business and post career planning and day to day operations. In addition, familiarize students with the collective bargaining agreements and relevant governing rules and organizations as well as the NCAA. Introduce students to the day to day responsibilities of the Sports Agent and discuss the barriers of entry into this industry and how students can get into the sports industry. This class will feature some exciting guess lecturers including major league baseball front office executives, marketing professionals, broadcast professionals, union officials and more, depending on availability.
MSBM 5010: Research Methods in Sport (3 cr.) Focuses on the principles and essential techniques of research to enable the student to investigate resources and trends to benefit sport business operations. Explores data collection methods as well as the analysis, summation and presentation of data.

3. Resume: Submit a current resume indicating educational and business experience.
4. Transcripts: Graduate Domestic (All Master of Science and Advanced Certificates) An earned undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0* is required. Please send official transcripts from every school attended to date sent directly to the School of Business Admissions Office. Student copies are not acceptable. MSB will consider a slightly lower GPA with significant workplace history.
5. Recommendations: Two letters of recommendations, either academic or professional, from a reference writer who can speak to the candidate’s intellectual capability and ability to handle the rigors of the applicant’s program. Letters can be uploaded via the on-line application. References writers may provide their own letter or you may forward our standard Professional Letter of Recommendation form available on our website if you prefer.

7. Health Records: Due at the time of enrollment, Adult students please submit the Health Form with proof of immunization against measles and rubella, in compliance with New York State regulations. This requirement applies to only students born on or after Jan. 1, 1957
8. International Applicants: International students are eligible for Master of Science degrees only because of program and visa requirements. For admissions, if your undergraduate education was conducted at a non-US institution, we will require transcript credentials from either (WES) World of Education Services Inc. (www.WES.org) or a member of (NACES) National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. (www.naces.org/members.html). Please review this list carefully as we cannot accept credentials from organizations not on this list. If your undergraduate education was not conducted in English, we will require a test of English language skills through any of the following sources: TOEFL, IELTS, ITEP. Please note that our minimum IBT TOEFL is 85, IELTS is 7 and ITEP is B2.
9. Optional: GRE, GMAT for graduation applications and SAT & ACT test scores for undergraduate applications are optional and not a required component to determine an admissions decision, however if you wish to submit any testing scores, we are happy to consider them as part of your overall application if you feel it will strengthen your application.
