About Me

Born in Castilla la Mancha, Spain, María José Luján is an associate professor in the Department of World Languages and Literatures, where she is the coordinator of Spanish and Latin American Studies. She received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Murcia, Spain, and has taught at Manhattanville College since 1997. She teaches courses in advanced language, Spanish literature, culture and film, and Latin American literature, culture and film.

Prof. Lujan encourages students to take Spanish courses because she is convinced they will gain a wonderful overview of Spanish and Latin American culture, literature and film. Students will also be able to understand the increasing population of Spanish speakers in the United States, which will enrich their global vision of the world.

Prof. Luján has given papers and talks at an extensive list of national and international conferences. Since January 2012, she has been a collaborator in the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE). Her research focuses on Spanish literature written by women; recently she has added to her research the works of Spanish and Latin American women writing in the U.S.
