About Me

Carrie Safron is a visiting instructor in the School of Education at Manhattanville College. She received her EdD from Columbia University Teachers College in Movement Sciences and Education, her MA from Teachers College in Applied Exercise Physiology and a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University. Her research background and teaching experiences are broad. Dr. Safron has taught classes in personal health and wellness, qualitative research, and health and physical education for pre-service generalist teachers at undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research focuses on qualitative approaches in health, fitness, and physical education. Dr. Safron’s dissertation specifically drew on critical pedagogies and used arts-based methods to explore young people’s engagement with health and fitness in out-of-school settings. Such research has led to national conference presentations and publications in numerous sport and physical education journals. Dr. Safron enjoys engaging with young people in interdisciplinary ways when it comes to health, fitness, and physical activity. This is an approach she has taken in her teaching, research, and as a personal trainer over the past ten years.
