According to the latest issue of the U.S. News and World Report, Manhattanville College is the top private, non-profit school in its category for Top Performers of Social Mobility. This means that after graduating from Manhattanville students are hired for jobs and advance to higher income brackets at rates higher than students who graduate from other institutions.

Manhattanville ranked number one among private, non-profit schools and number six overall for social mobility in Regional Universities North, according to the 2022 Best Colleges rankings issued by U.S. News & World Report released this week.

The majority of Pell Grants are awarded to students with an annual family income under $20,000. The graduation rate for these students is higher at Manhattanville than at other colleges in its US News and World Report category, one factor that has led to the newly announced ranking.

“The work that Manhattanville has been doing to create upward mobility for these students is being widely recognized,’’ said President Michael E. Geisler, Ph.D., president of Manhattanville. “I am proud of our students; and I am proud of our faculty and staff who live out our mission every day, and encourage each student to develop as an independent and creative thinker in pursuing career and personal goals, helping students move up the ladder of success and instilling in them the values, skills and tools to succeed in today’s market.”

Geisler pointed to several recent milestones that demonstrate Manhattanville’s commitment to underserved students.

In May, the U.S. Department of Education designated Manhattanville College a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), allowing the college to seek federal funding to provide more resources and support for Hispanic students. This year, 37 percent of students at Manhattanville identify as Latinx.

Last year, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) Committee on Global Diversity selected the Changing Suburbs Institute® at Manhattanville’s School of Education as the recipient of the Best Practice Award in Support of Multicultural Education and Diversity.

The college also jumped up more than 20 spots from last year’s rankings to number 58 overall in best Regional Universities North.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings have been listing institutions for more than 35 years. The latest edition assesses 1,452 U.S. bachelor's degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality in addition to information on application requirements, tuition and financial aid policies, student body demographics, and campus life.
