Manhattanville College’s campus was a buzz with a mix of enthusiasm and apprehension as the first year students moved into the residence halls on Friday, August 25.
“I am excited, I just want to move in,” Tracey McKay ‘21, said explaining that she has been waiting for this day since she went to orientation, and the wait was beginning to get to her.
“I want to speed it up!” she said with a huge smile.
“Mostly, I am excited, but I am a little sad to be leaving my parents,” Sarah Kurien ‘21, of Scarsdale, NY, said. She added that she was looking forward to all of the events that Manhattanville has planned for the day.
Anna Kurien ‘21, said she is looking forward to her classes on Monday, meeting new friends, and trying new experiences. “I am excited to breakdown any boundaries I may have,” she said.
Thomas McMahon ‘21, knows that he will be in for new experiences living on Manhattanville’s campus compared to his hometown of Manhattan, NY. “It is going to be really different than the city, which always has so much going on, but that is why I came here,” he said.
One first year student that was taking everything in stride was James McCormack ‘21, who said, “I am not excited, I am not worried, I am content.” The Bronx, NY native then added “I am just going to put my best foot forward.”
The 515 first year students that make up the Class of 2021 hail from 37 states with the largest contingencies from New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine and California, and 25 countries including: Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Georgia, Iran, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Tajikistan.
No matter where they’re from, they will have plenty of opportunities to meet and get to know each other as the Office of Student Activities has organized many events to help them get involved including the Fall Involvement Fair on September 6, and Fall Fest’Ville on September 30.
The Class of 2021 will be formally welcomed to the Valiant community at Academic Convocation on Wednesday, August 30, which highlights the first week of classes.
