Identifying risk
-If you feel there is an immediate threat, call Campus Safety at 914-323-7233.
-To alert the CARE Team, you can raise a CARE Alert in ServiceHub under Retention Alert or email one of the members of the CARE Team. Please provide basic information about the student and a description of the incident or behaviors that prompted you to alert the CARE Team.
-You are the CARE Team’s best resource because you are familiar to the student. If you are comfortable doing so, tell the student that you are concerned and ask if the student is OK. In many cases, students will indicate that they could use some help and you can refer them to Student Health & Counseling or other appropriate resources offered at the College.
-Students can be referred to the CARE Team when they seem to be struggling in many areas and finding it hard to perform their daily tasks and meet obligations. Their struggles may be emotional, academic, medical, behavioral, or otherwise. If you have noticed changes in a student’s behavior over time or if you notice a student appears withdrawn, sullen, upset or depressed, you may wish to consider referring that student. Additionally, if a student is engaging in aggressive or inappropriate behaviors or fails to comply with your requests, it is important you refer that student.
-In some circumstances you may provide the CARE Team with information about a student’s behavior that violates the Student Conduct Code. When appropriate, those cases will be referred to the Dean of Students office. The conduct process is another way a student can receive assistance, education, referrals and follow-up.
-It is important to know that you do not need to make this decision on your own. If you are concerned about when to bring a student to the attention of the CARE Team, contact a member of the CARE Team. We will provide consultation under all circumstances.
