Concerns About the Flu
With flu alerts in the headlines and newscasts everywhere, the Manhattanville community is understandably concerned about whether and how this illness could affect our campus. We've set up this web site as a clearinghouse of information about pandemic flu, as well as a place to announce Manhattanville-specific updates in the event of an outbreak. Essentials to know at this time are:
- Cases of H1N1 virus (formerly called Swine Flu) have been reported in the state of New York. Learn more from the New York State Department of Health.
- There are currently no restrictions for travel.
- Plans for Manhattanville study abroad trips and current off campus study programs remain unchanged.
- It is wise for individuals to stay informed, and for governments, health organizations, and institutions like Manhattanville to prepare contingency plans for an outbreak. Manhattanville College will monitor reputable health sources daily when alerts are present.
- International students from countries affected by flu outbreaks, or traveling there, can be in touch with the Director of International Student Services (adamsl@mville.edu) should they have questions.
- We encourage concerned Manhattanville faculty, staff, students, and families to check the sites below or this page for updates.

Parents and Students — Help Us Be Prepared
The College is working on an emergency plan for events up to and including the closure of the College. However, we recommend that each student and his or her family discuss their own emergency plan. One specific event families should plan for is a potential College closing due to an outbreak of avian flu or other contagious disease. We suggest you discuss the following questions with your family:
- If you are not able to retrieve your student within 36 hours, do you have a relative or friend in New York who can accommodate your student in an emergency?
- Can your student car pool with others to return home?
