The Fall 2017 semester began with a full Day of Service for our incoming Valiant students. On August 26, the Office of Student Activities and the Duchesne Center for Religion & Social Justice sponsored a successful Day of Service in which 265 First Year students participated in on and off campus volunteer projects. Volunteer efforts included Environmental Stream Clean-up, Habitat for Humanity, Westchester Parks Clean-Up, Organic Farm set-up & prep, Westchester Transitional Housing Programs, preparing supplies for Mid-Night Runs and Backpacks for children and teens, letters to soldiers, and letters and cards to hospitalized children.
The day helped create a Valiant community of service and engagement in support of our College’s mission and identity of social responsibility. We hope that this becomes a tradition! In the last academic year, Valiants completed 34,060 service hours, with a total of 856 students volunteering. Those hours add up to an impressive contribution to society: $24.14 (value of a volunteer hour) x 34,060 hours= $822,208.40 worth of service.
