Changing Housing Status Between Semesters

The Office of Residence Life often receives questions regarding the process of changing from commuter to resident status or vice-versa.  The first step in such a switch would be to consider the financial repercussions associated with a change in status. We recommend speaking with the Financial Aid Office, (914)-323-5357, to determine how a change in status might impact a student's aid package and the Office of Student Accounts, (914)-323-5266, to determine how this change would affect the students bill.

Once you have made the decision to change status, the next step would be to contact the Office of Residence Life. Current residents who wish to switch to commuter status should reach out to their Resident Director to inform them of their intent and schedule a day and time to officially check out of their room and return keys.  Please be aware that charges may be added to a  student's account if damages have occurred between the time a student checked into a room and the time of check out.  Additional charges may be posted if a student does not return keys, does not officially check out of the room with a Residence Life staff member, etc.

Current commuters wishing to become residents should contact the Office of Residence Life at (914)-323-5217 and ask to be added to the housing waitlist.   Room and board charges will then be posted to the students account.  In order to be eligible for placement, a student must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits and be financially cleared.  Housing will be assigned based on availability and eligible students notified of placement and roommate information as soon as possible.  Communication occurs via Manhattanville College e-mail. Please be aware that housing options can be limited.  Students on the housing waitlist will be notified as soon as possible if housing is not available.
