Manhattanville Reid Castle In the Spring

Berger Trip

Spring 2011

On Saturday, April 2, 2011, the Arthur M. Berger Field Trip took a busload of 50 students, faculty and staff to Boston to tour the newly opened Art of the Americas wing of the Museum of Fine Arts. In the morning, the group enjoyed docent-led tours of the new galleries, which juxtapose paintings with the objects included in them, such as John Singleton Copley's portrait of Paul Revere next to an example of the Colonial silversmith's craftsmanship or John Singer Sargent's masterful portrait of The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit framed by the blue and white porcelain urns depicted in the painting. After lunch, Manhattanville art history faculty members led mini tours through the permanent collection, highlighting the MFA's holdings in ancient art, Native American art, 19th century art, English art and contemporary art.
