Portfolio Guidelines Prior to Fall 2010

The Portfolio must be presented for formal review twice in the student's academic career, once at the beginning of the fourth semester for First Portfolio Review and once at the beginning of the seventh semester for Final Portfolio Review (transfer students entering the College with 40 or more credits submit a portfolio for first review in their first semester at Manhattanvile). For a successful final review, the portfolio must contain:

  • The student's plan for a well-balanced program of study that fulfills all Manhattanville College requirements for the student's chosen major and minor, and all New York State requirements for the liberal arts and sciences;
  • Evidence of meeting the General Education distribution and competency requirements
  • Fulfillment of the writing and library skills requirements (courses meeting the College Writing requirement ; listed here
  • Completion of the Program Evaluation Essay;
  • Completion of the global awareness competency with the Global Awareness Essay;
  • A resume approved by the Office of Career Services; and,
  • Four samples of the student's best-written work that illustrates the student's ability to do critical analysis and scholarly research (at least two of which must involve research using standard bibliographic methods).

The Board on Academic Standards (BOAS), a faculty committee that certifies students plans for their degrees, reviews all student Portfolios.Students should work closely with their academic advisors and the chairpersons of their major and minor departments to complete the portfolio and to assure all requirements for graduation are met. Failure to submit a Portfolio when scheduled results in a hold on the student's registration for future coursework.
