|Manhattanville College Graduate and International DJ Honored by Business Council|
Manhattanville College Alumnus Joseph Donato ’03, or as he is better known DJ Shortkutz, was named as one of the recipients of the Business Council of Westchester’s 2014 “Rising Star” awards.
“It feels awesome having been selected for this award. The fact that I was recognized for my hard work definitely gives me a sense of fulfillment and purpose,” Donato said.
In addition to being an international DJ he is also a master barber, and owner of Shortkutz Salon for Men in Pelham, New York, which he started shortly after graduating from Manhattanville. Donato believes one of the reasons why he was chosen for the award was how unique both of his businesses are.
“Shortkutz Salon is not your typical barbershop, and my DJ business’ clientele includes some of the biggest celebrities in the world,” he said. He has spun for Jay-Z, Heidi Klum, Miley Cyrus, and Jamie Foxx, amongst others.
While at Manhattanville Donato majored in Business Management and minored in History, but credits his time playing on the basketball team as what has helped him the most with both careers. “The highs and lows of college sports helped mentally prepare me for my future business missteps and triumphs more than any class lesson ever could.”
The award program is designed similarly to the national business recognition program, “40 Under Forty,” and is designed to recognize people under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership, foresight, and a vision for the county. The winners were chosen based on professional and/or entrepreneurial accomplishments, demonstrated leadership qualities, and professional and /or business affiliations.
Donato and the other Rising Star winners will receive their awards and honors at a ceremony on June 12, hosted by RPW Group at 800 Westchester Avenue, in Rye Brook, New York.
