|Manhattanville Alumna Erin Pryor Achieves Her Goal of Starting a Dance Company|
Manhattanville Alumna Erin Pryor ’12, reached her dream goal when she started her own dance company, Erin Pryor Dance Theatre, in March.
She has developed EPDT into a non-profit company that concentrates on site specific performances that aide in the healing of traumatized communities.
“It has been a life changing experience”, said Pryor, “It hasn’t been easy, but one morning I woke up and decided that if this was what I wanted to do with my life there was no time like the present”.
Through hosting fundraisers and small scale events she raised more than $1,500 for EPDT. However, her big break came when a two year residency was offered, which included presenting two performances a year.
EDPT is now getting ready for its debut performance “Blindly Intertwined” in conjunction with the PAC House Theatre. Included in the performance is Pryor’s senior thesis, “The Noise Between the Silence”, a piece inspired by the emotions people went through during and after September 11, 2001 that was first performed at Manhattanville.
“All of the pieces included in “Blindly Intertwined” have to do with the interactions between people, places and things,” she said. “Everything that I gathered from all my classes in the Dance and Theatre department set me up to create a dance company. From creative process to composition to workshop to stage management, each class helped during this first production.”
“Blindly Intertwined” will be performed on Saturday, October 12 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 13, at 4 p.m. at the PAC Theatre House, New Rochelle, NY. There will be a reception at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday following the performance. Tickets can be purchased through SmartTix at 212-868-4444 or purchased at the door.
