|Colleen Gallagher ’08 plays Fiona MacLaren in Brigadoon|
Colleen Gallagher '08, Manhattanville College Musical Theatre alumnae, is currently playing the lead, Fiona MacLaren, in Brigadoon at Dutch Apple in Pennsylvania.
"During my time at Manhattanville, I gained a real appreciation for classical musicals," Gallagher said. "My only time seeing the show was Manhattanville's production a few years ago. It was a wonderful production, and I remember thinking that I would love to do the show someday."
Brigadoon is a musical where two Scottish hunters discover an enchanted village. This village only appears once every two years and no one who lives in the village can leave or they will break the enchantment. But, visitors can come and go. The music and dance numbers are what carry the show.
Gallagher is a graduate of Manhattanville College's music program, with a concentration in musical theatre. "I feel confident in the training I received at Manhattanville, and use it every time I step into a rehearsal room or on stage," Gallagher said.
A review in BroadwayWorld about Gallagher stated, "a classically trained singer whose voice could carry any show she cares to perform in, with a soprano strongly reminiscent of Julie Andrews."
This is her first time performing Brigadoon, although she is no stranger to the stage. "Starting a contract is always exciting because you meet an entirely new group of people and jump right into rehearsals," Gallagher said about her new experience. She is a veteran of the Gateway Playhouse Arundel Barn Playhouse in Maine and summer stock theatre in New York City.
Brigadoon runs until May 11 at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre; call 717-898-1900 for tickets, or visit www.dutchapple.com.
