Manhattanville in President’s Higher Ed Community Service Honor Roll

Presidents Honor RollThe Corporation for National and Community Service has named Manhattanville College in the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for excellent services provided by the Duchesne Center for Religion and Social Justice.

"The Duchesne Center for Religion and Social Justice of Manhattanville College has entered its second year being involved in The President's White House Campus Challenge Initiative for Interfaith and Community Services in Higher Education," said Rev. Wil Tyrrell, Director of the Duchesne Center. "Now having been selected to the President's Community Service Honor Roll, it's a real distinction for the College."

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

In order to be considered for the Honor Roll, the Duchesne Center had to demonstrate engagement in at least three outstanding community service initiatives.

Demonstrating the diversity of the programming, Rev. Tyrrell wrote about the Duchesne Center's work with The Holy Rosary Church/Dom Bosco Center, an outreach center in Port Chester that addresses the needs of its parish and local community through a food pantry, soup kitchen and clothing room, and Arc of Westchester, with the mission to empower children and adults in developmental disabilities, and WestHab, Inc., that works to combat housing crisis and homelessness.

"This is true acknowledgment of what the Duchesne Center is about and how engaged our student body is on and off campus effecting change in people's lives and the communities to which we service," Rev. Tyrrell said.
