Through this program RPVCs will enroll in Manhattanville's School of Education Jump Start Program, which is an accelerated masters degree and teacher certification program that prepares graduates to begin teaching in classrooms within seven months. It is specially designed for career changers. While teaching full time, students continue part-time coursework and complete a masters degree and New York State Initial Certification. Candidates will earn a Master of Arts in one of the following specializations: Childhood (1-6), Childhood and Special Education (1-6), Middle Childhood/Adolescence in English, Social Studies, Sciences, or Math (5-12), Middle Childhood/Adolescence and Special Education in English, Social Studies, Sciences or Math (5-12), Adolescence – Spanish (7-12), or Teaching ESL (TESOL – All Grades). "Jump Start's Accelerated Masters Program for Teacher Education is a great fit for RPCVs.," Mikki Shaw, Director of the Jump Start Program, said. "Since RPCVs already have a good deal of teaching and community organizing experience and are often likely to be seeking a career in public service, this is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of past experiences and build on them."

Manhattanville College President Jon C. Strauss and the Acting Director of the Peace Corps Carrie Hessler-Radelet signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in early January. The MOA and the associated program will remain in place for at least the next five years.
