|Senior Dan Fiorito Named NCBWA Division III National Player of the Week|
The honors continued to roll in for senior Dan Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) after a tremendous four-game stretch last week, as the star shortstop earned the highest honor possible by being named the NCBWA Division III National Player of the Week, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier this week, Fiorito was named the Freedom Conference of the Week on Monday and Tuesday earned a spot on D3Baseball.com's National Team of the Week, from which the NCBWA National Player of the Week is chosen.
This was Fiorito's first career weekly honor from either the Freedom Conference or the NCBWA after a monster week at the plate for Manhattanville. In four games, the shortstop went 11 for 18 (.611) with five home runs, three doubles, eight RBIs, 12 runs scored and three stolen bases. He was the best Division III shortstop of the week according to the website, joining 12 other players on the national weekly honor roll.
The senior started the week on Tuesday against William Paterson, going 3 for 5 with two homers, doubling his season total. Fiorito also added a week-best four runs batted in and three runs scored against the Pioneers. He then dominated Wilkes in a three-game series over the weekend, going 4 for 6 with three runs scored and three stolen bases on Friday and then adding a double, three homers, four RBI and six runs scored in two Valiant wins on Sunday.
Fiorito has been on fire all year long for Manhattanville, as he enters today batting .473 (35 for 74) on the season with a team-leading seven homers, nine doubles and 30 runs scored. He also paces the squad with a .905 slugging percentage and a .540 on-base percentage, and has gone a perfect 12-for-12 on stolen-base attempts so far this season.
Manhattanville (8-10, 4-5 Freedom) will finish up its three-game homestand tomorrow, as the Valiants welcome FDU-Florham to Manhattanville Field for a 3:30 p.m. Freedom Conference matchup.
