Phase One of Renovations to be Completed by June

Reid Castle BathroomRenovated Reid Castle BathroomPhase One of the $4.5 million renovations approved by the Board of Trustees in 2010 for residence halls and academic/teaching building renovations will be mostly completed by June 2012. These renovations include the replacement of all windows in four residence halls, Brownson, and the Music Building. Two “smart” technology classrooms have been completed. Also on the list is a continuation of flooring, lighting and bathroom upgrades. Phase Two, which will start next summer, will involve more residence hall improvements and classroom technology upgrades.

In addition, thanks to the generous anonymous gift of $5 million announced last fall, interior work in Reid Castle includes main level restroom renovations the replacement of the wood floor in the West Room, and a new Welcome Center for Admissions.

Walkway RenovationsWork will begin this summer on the main quad and in front of the academic buildings to improve walkways, lighting, signage, gathering areas, and landscaping (view these preliminary design concepts). Capital improvement funds from Chartwells, the Colleges’ contracted food service and catering company, will make it possible for improvements in the campus dining room, and air-conditioning in the West Room. Also sections of the Library will be renovated to support student and faculty services including ARC, Academic Writing, the ePortfolio project, and the Center for Teaching and Learning. The Library’s roof will be repaired thanks to the longstanding support of Library benefactor, Trustee Nancy Roberts King ’66.
