The Duchesne Center for Religious and Social Justice at Manhattanville College will be sponsoring “My Dream,” a play that will be raising money to send underprivileged kids to a Broadway show.

“I’m very proud of the cast and crew for bringing this script to life and taking the time out to help these children,” said Craig Donnelly, community service coordinator for the Duchesne Center.

“My Dream”, a thrilling comedy, is themed after the principle of going after your individual aspirations. The story follows Alaskan native, Valerie Knight, played by Lori Belovin ’16, an aspiring dancer who moves to New York City. She encounters very harsh criticism in the beginning of her journey from Freddy Light, a casting director, played by Nick Barbera ’17. Until one day Valerie trips over a magic bottle and unleashes a magical genie, named Mathew Angel, played by Anton Burek ’17, who is ready to make her dreams come true.

“I love that we can make this play come to life and raise money for children to see a Broadway play, and allow them to enjoy the same magic we bring onstage,” said Belovin.

The charity play is an extension of the Children’s Academy for Student Theater program the Duchesne Center has were underprivileged children participate in theater games, acting instruction, and improvisation techniques every Monday and Thursday night. After perfecting these skills the kids in the program create their own show.

“My Dream” will run Thursday, February 27 through Sunday, March 2 with all shows 8 p.m. in the Ex Theatre of Founders Hall at Manhattanville College. Contact Donnelly for more information.

Manhattanville College is located at 2900 Purchase St., Purchase, N.Y., 10577.
