|Early Childhood Health and Education Conference Comes To Manhattanville|

Manhattanville College will be hosting, “Healthy Children, Healthy Futures: Physical Fitness, Health and Safety in Early Education,” a professional development conference for early child educators on October 5.
The conference, which is co-sponsored by Manhattanville’s Early Childhood Education Program, Early Childhood Alumni Association and The Goddard School, will include interactive presentations, and a variety of workshops. Keynote speakers Dr. Rhonda Clements and Sharon Schneider will lead a talk titled, “Squiggly Muscles and Healthy Hearts: Providing for the Young Child’s Physical Activity Needs.”
Dr. Clements, director of the Graduate Program in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy at Manhattanville, is the former president of the American Association for the Child’s Right to Play and author of several books about movement, play, and activities in childhood. She has also presented papers at more than 100 international, national and local conferences and served as a consultant for several groups including the Disney Channel, Crayola Crayons, and the Children’s Television Workshop.
Schneider is a board member of the American Association for the Child’s Right to Play and has written several books on childhood movement activities. She has recently served as a consultant for the Head Start Body Start Program and currently teaches at Hofstra University.
Conference attendees will also get to attend two of the many other presentations led by childhood health professionals during the day. Other topics include: “Eat Well, Live Well,” “Child Safety Sense,” “Green Way of Safe Play: Creating Games Using Recyclables.”
The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Reid Castle. Here is the complete schedule:
