Manhattanville Music Department Offers A Week of Concerts

Starting December 2, Manhattanville College's Music Department is offering a variety of concerts to accompany the holiday mood and highlight the incredible talents of our students and community members. Enjoy one or all of these concerts.

With the exception of the Holiday Concert on December 2, all concert are free and open to the public.

 

Holiday Concert

Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 4 p.m.; O'Byrne Chapel

The annual Holiday Concert featuring the Manhattanville College Chorus and the Women's Vocal Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of John Cuk. The Chorus will perform Carl Czerny's "Te Deum" and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Mass In C Major (K.317)" "Coronation." The Women's Vocal Chamber Ensemble will sing Giacomo Puccini, Sr.'s "Kyrie" from his Messa a Tre. The concert will conclude with seasonal carols. Both the "Te Deum" and Messa a Tre will be American premieres.

General admission tickets are $10, non-Mville students and senior citizens are $5.


Small Jazz Ensemble Concert

Monday, December 3, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.; Berman Students' Center Theater

Enjoy a free jazz concert by students in the Small Jazz Ensemble.

 

Cabaret in the Castle

Tuesday, December, 4, 2012 at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.; West Room, Reid Hall

Cabaret in the Castle will feature the music of Jerome Kern. Songs will include "I Won't Dance", "Why Was I Born?", "A Fine Romance", "Look For The Silver Lining", "The Way You Look Tonight", and a medley from the musical Showboat. Also included will be songs by Maltby and Shire, Stephen Sondheim, and Harold Arlen. There will be a special guest appearance by Manhattanville's pop vocal group, The Quintessentials.

 

Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble Concert

Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.; Berman Students' Center Theater

This is a joint concert by the Manhattanville Jazz and Wind Ensembles, directed by Terry Reynolds. The Jazz Ensemble will perform compositions by Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Gordon Goodwin, Lennie Niehaus and Doug Beach. The Wind Ensemble will perform works by Kurt Weill, Frank Ticheli, and Robert W. Smith.

 

Manhattanville College Community Orchestra

Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 4 p.m.; West Room, Reid Hall

Conducted by Carl C. Bettendorf, the Manhattanville College Community Orchestra will perform "Symphony No. 8 in F Major, op. 93" by Ludwig van Beethoven, "Suite No. 1 for Small Orchestra" by Igor Stravinsky, and "Holberg Suite, op. 40" by Edvard Grieg, and more.
