Ara Fitzgerald, a professor in the Dance and Theater department, will be performing in Cage on Vinyl on Marley to commemorate the life of John Cage Milton on Saturday, October 27. Along with several other dancers and choreographers, Fitzgerald will be performing to vinyl recordings of John Cage's music.
"I am truly honored to be included in this historic event celebrating John Cage," Fitzgerald said.
Cage was an American composer, music theorist, writer and artist who emerged as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. He was one of the leading figures in the post-war avant-garde movement. Cage is best known for composition 4'33", which is a composition of the sounds of the environment heard by the audience.
The Norte Maar and Experiments in Art and Technology are co-collaborating with the National Academy Museum to celebrate the centennial anniversary. The performance is at the National Academy Museum, 1083 Fifth Avenue, NYC from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fitzgerald will perform at 3:30 p.m.
