|The Chorus and Women's Vocal Ensemble Spring Concert Features Choral Music of Latin American|
|Thursday, April 26, 2012|
The Manhattanville College Chorus and Women's Vocal Ensemble will perform their annual Spring Concert on Sunday, April 29 at 4 p.m. in the in the Berman Students' Center Theater.
This spring's concert will feature choral music of Latin America. The choirs will sing works from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador, Cuba and Venezuela, by such diverse and well known composers as Dominick Argento, Astor Piazzolla, Joao Gilberto, Jorge Ben and Mexican Baroque composer, Francisco López Capillas. It will culminate with a performance of Ariel Ramirez's Misa Criolla.
"It was conceived due to a visit in January from an Ecuadorian choral pedagogue, Jose Criollo, who's daughter attends Manhattanville and sings in the choir," John Cuk, Choral Director, said. "He sent along some pieces from Cuba and Ecuador for us to rehearse with him. They are choral arrangements of folk songs, sung both in Spanish and Quechua. From this experience, I decide to pursue repertoire of purely Latin American influences, for this concert."
Tickets are $10.00 for General Admission and $5.00 for Students and Senior Citizens and they may be purchased at the door. For further information, please call the Music Department at (914) 323-5260.
