|Jessica Caldwell '08 Produces at this year's Sundance Film Festival|
|Friday, 28 January 2011 00:00|
Jessica Caldwell ’08 has always been a super producer. At 19 she graduated summa cum laude from Manhattanville College in just three years, and was then accepted into Columbia University’s MFA program in film.
While at Manhattanville, Jessica majored in Communication Studies and minored in English/Creative Writing. Apparently, she learned her lessons well. Recently, Jessica learned that a short film she had produced was accepted for showing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the world-renowned event that grew out of the Sundance Institute, created by actor Robert Redford, among others. Her film AWOL was one of only 81 films selected from almost 6,500 submissions.
AWOL deals with a young lesbian soldier at home for Christmas in the U.S., and her mixed feelings between her boot camp experience and being deployed for service in Afghanistan. Given the recent vote against "Don't Ask/Don't Tell" it sounds very timely indeed.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood of Park City, Utah on January 26th or 29th, stop into the Festival and catch Jessica’s work.
Congratulations, Jessica and company; we're all proud of you!
