At 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, winner of the 2009 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award James "Jim" King came to Manhattanville. This reunion with the college was to read part of his 2010, award-winning, and critically acclaimed novel "Bill Warrington's Last Chance." This marked the first time someone who received a Master of Arts in Writing took part in Meet the Writers.
"It's just wonderful to be back at Manhattanville. They've just been so supportive and wonderful," said King, who received his Masters of Writing in 2008.
The novel, inspired by one of King's Wilton neighbors, follows the story of Bill Warrington who attempts to reunite with his estranged children. It involves him taking a trip with his 15-year-old granddaughter April, a sarcastic and wisecracking young girl who dreams of driving. The story takes five perspectives, and divulges into how Bill's fading memory affects this last attempt to meet up with his family.
"I'd like to thank the faculty and students support," King said. Wanting a community of writers, he discovered coming here to be one of the best writing decisions of his life.
