Diane Gómez is an Assistant Professor of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and Special Education at Manhattanville's School of Education. She teaches a variety of courses in both areas, including Methods and Materials of Second Language Instruction, Introduction to the Multicultural Classroom K-12, Second Language Learner with Special Needs, Introduction to the Exceptional Student and Instructional Strategies for Students with Learning and Behavioral Problems. Prior to her appointment at Manhattanville, she was an adjunct professor of graduate education at Fordham University and Iona College and an adjunct professor of undergraduate Spanish at Manhattanville. She has experience working with New York City teaching fellows teaching courses in culturally and linguistically diverse adolescents and action research for portfolios.  Dr. Gómez has over thirty years of experience teaching foreign language at all levels in the public school system.  She has also served as a Spanish teacher for special needs adolescents, elementary bilingual gifted and talented children and general special education at the middle school level.  She has been a curriculum developer in ESL and a turn key facilitator on literacy strategies.

Dr. Gómez has presented numerous workshops on student-centered second language classrooms, differentiated instruction and children as authors at local, state and national conferences.  She has published two chapters in a book related to teaching ELLs at the secondary level and articles on differentiated assessment and second language acquisition teaching strategies. Currently she is working on an action research project concerning the writing process in Spanish of native, heritage and second language speakers of Spanish.
