Megan Cifarelli, Ph.D.

Associate Professor Megan Cifarelli joined the Department of Art History at Manhattanville College in 2007 as a full-time member of the faculty. A specialist in the Art of the Ancient Near East with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, her publications on the art and culture of Northern Mesopotamia and Iran in the first millennium BCE have appeared in journals including The Art Bulletin and The American Journal of Archaeology. In addition to teaching, Professor Cifarelli has worked as a curator in the department of Ancient Near Eastern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, participating in the development of major exhibitions of the art of ancient Iran and Iraq, and she created an NEH sponsored exhibition on Ancient Greece for the Children's Museum of Manhattan.

 

Professor Cifarelli teaches a wide range of courses in the arts of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome for the Department of Art History. In 2008, she developed Manhattanville College's Museum Studies Program, an interdisciplinary minor that prepares students for a variety of museum related careers. She is currently working on the publication of the personal ornaments from first millennium BCE site of Hasanlu, Iran, in conjunction with scholars from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Boston University.
