Carolee Berg, Ph.DAssistant Professor
Professor Berg was a Management Consultant and a Psychotherapist for several years before returning for her Ph.D. It was as a psychotherapist that she became intrigued with silence. At the University of Illinois she did research on silence in different cultures and taught a class at Sewanee called Silence and Power. Professional presentations include - Rituals go ‘Round and ‘Round: Into the Silence; Rituals and Silence: When Biology and Belief Meet; Ritual and Silence in times of Crisis; Walking the Labyrinth. Recently, she shifted her research to examine silence and contemplative practices as well as contemplation as “first person learning”. Professional memberships: The American Anthropological Association; The Association of Contemplative Mind in Society; The Society of Anthropology and Religion. Professor Berg will be on sabbatical during the Spring semester of 2012.
