Manhattanville Excellence in Teaching Academy

Manhattanville's Excellence in Teaching Academy (META) is a highly selective and clinically rich graduate program that provides future teachers with the hands-on experience employers are seeking.

Graduate students in META receive a 50% tuition scholarship and serve as Teaching Apprentices in assigned schools. META Apprentices assist classroom teachers to deliver instruction to children. Mentored by expert practitioners, META Apprentices learn how to be effective teachers and gain the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in education.

META Admissions Criteria

  • completed Manhattanville School of Education graduate application
  • official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) score
  • minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.25
  • three letters of recommendation, professional or academic
  • personal essay stating reasons for wanting to be a teacher; include META in the heading
  • Interview

 META Program Requirements

  • complete coursework aligned to the new teaching standards and common core curriculum
  • engage in clincial components of the program
  • course-based assignments, observations, and informal and formal assessments
  • portfolio
  • NYS Teacher Certification examinations and edTPA standards
  • research presentation
  • minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.25
