|Fox Lane Middle School|
Annemarie Parro Berardi, Principal
A new partnership began in the fall of 2009 when Fox Lane Middle School started working with Manhattanville College. The result is a Professional Development School (PDS), which is intended to benefit both the partner school and the college. The two institutions will share responsibilities and blend expertise and resources for several purposes. PDS' primary goals are to help prepare teacher candidates, provide faculty development for FLMS staff, improve instructional practice, and enhance student learning.
Loretta Burke will serve as the liaison between schools as well as field supervisor for student teachers placed at both the high school and middle school. In addition, she will also teach a seminar on site at FLMS for Manhattanville students.
Professor Rick Heckendorn who teaches courses in Social Studies Education at Manhattanville will be holding on-site classes for Manhattanville students. These unique learning opportunities offer pre-service teachers an opportunity to observe Fox Lane teachers in action and witness student learning in a laboratory setting.
Finally, FLMS will provide field placements for Manhattanville's pre-service teachers and develop professional development opportunities for FLMS staff. The partnership also offers other benefits such as a 1/3 tuition discount for Bedford teachers wishing to take courses at Manhattanville and a 50% tuition discount for graduates of Fox Lane High School who qualify for admission to the college.
